Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Dada has called for the enactment of stiffer penalties, to address the increasing rate of rape cases and other forms of sexual abuse in the country.
The Commissioner suggested death sentence and castration as some drastic measures to address rape and other forms of sexual abuse.
Dada who also called for good parenting, outlined some root causes of rape to include poor parenting and illiteracy.
She decried a situation where some parents abdicate their roles to helpers and neighbours without considering the effect on their wards.
The Commissioner pointed out that in some cases, drug abuse, as well as mental ailments, could also cause sexual assault.
